Industrial Relations gets it right

The below link provides a win for newsagencies.

A change in the minimum number of  hours for children to be able to work after school spells a great opportunity for Newsagencies.

” Update: On 11 May the Federal Court upheld Fair Work Australia’s decision to allow students to work for 1.5 hours on school days. This means that students can work for as little as 1.5 hours per shift on school days, between the hours of school finishing and the business closing. Employers need to make sure they have written consent from the student and their parent or guardian. “

All too often, shops closing at 5.30 or 6pm could not employ students after school due to a minimum number of hours in the award. The students want the extra time, and the newsagent could certainly use the service support.

Now the award has accepted reality and allowed students to perform a shift from 1.5hrs only. It’s a win for students to make some money on their way home, and a win for Newsagents.

Congratulations Fair Work Australia. This is a sensible outcome.
